Formerly enzymes were held to be ferments that were present in all living beings;  without enzymes life couldn't be imagined.  In our body are an estimated 2,500 different enzymes, of which up till now only some 700 have been properly examined.  Our body produces different enzymes for different purposes.  Enzymes direct an unimaginable number of biochemical processes in our body; whether as building material, transmitters or energy carriers, enzymes are part of every process.  They speed up the metabolic processes in our body and are also known as bio-catalysts.

Enzymes are either produced by our own body, or taken in with our food.  It is well known that enzymes lose their effectiveness when boiled, pasteurised or when preservatives are added to the food.  Only raw, uncooked and unpreserved food contains enzymes that are useful for the body.

The storage capacity of the body for enzymes decreases drastically as we get older.  This was shown clearly in an American research project, where 30 times more enzymes were recorded in the bodies of a group of 25-year olds than in those of a group of 80-year olds.

Typical age-related problems such as painful joints are often a result of an enzyme shortage.  Certain proteins and fats are not digested and these build up uric acid crystals which settle in the joints and often cause severe pain.  Digestive disorders and infections can also cause enzyme shortage.  Especially at an advanced age it is recommended that additional enzymes are taken.

Enzymes such as bromelaine or papaine are obtained from the pineapple and the papaya respectively.  In addition, these enzymes have also been used in a wide range of applications in the world of alternative medicine.  Thus they diminish disorders in the digestion of fatty substances, soothe joint problems, help fight rheumatism in the tissue,  help with problems of the spine, reduce swellings, lessen the probability of blood clots, abate problems of the intestines and the bladder, reduce infections, bronchial problems and sinus problems; they are often used in cases of tumorous afflictions before and after other treatment.

Enzymes stimulate the body's repair mechanisms, fight infections and improve healing processes without any side effects whatsoever.

Especially the vegetal enzymes from pineapple and papaya fruits (bromelaine, papaine and pancreatine) have proven their worth as a curative enzyme.  As a supplement to the daily food intake, they support metabolic activity, reduce the risk of infections, speed up the disposal of waste products and the digestion.  They supplement other enzymes and strengthen the natural defences of the body.
