Green tea In the Far East, especially China and Japan, green tea has been grown for hundreds of years. The sturdy tea bush is a climbing plant that can reach a height of 10 to 15 metres but when cultivated usually is limited to a height of 1 metre for practical reasons. Because of its many active ingredients, green tea is highly valued by the indigenous population as both a pleasant beverage and a medicine.
Traditionally green tea is supposed to provide inner harmony, help in cases of bodily and mental stress and enhance the resistance of the body. In addition, green tea is highly regarded because of its stimulating characteristics; the tannic acid (=Teeinne?) it contains is released in a very short time. The stimulating effect is noticeable a short while after enjoying green tea and its effect lasts without causing nervous effects.
Research has shown that the most important effective content of this plant are the polyphenols. These are components which also counteract the formation and effect of free radicals and thus support the immune system of the body, as do vitamins E and C.
Good quality green tea provides a very light, clear and bitter tasting aroma. The bitter taste is caused by the high content of active substances. Green tea can be drunk without limitation.
